Twitter Photo-Sharing Service – Bad for Twitpic!

No doubt you would have heard by now that Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo is announcing the launch of a photo-sharing service this week, we first heard it was a rumour from Techcrunch however since then allthingsd.com confirmed that the image sharing service is going to be announced on Wednesday at All Things D’s D9 California Conference.

I hadn’t seen this report myself until I asked Robert Scoble about it yesterday and he told me where it had been confirmed so it must be true, unless All things D are lying.

So who knows what the truth is, I guess we will find out soon enough.

Twitter clearly wants to overturn these 3rd parties, and has said so previously.  We also saw this with Tweetdeck being bought by Twitter and now Twitpic and Yfrog will be the ones being pushed out or bought?  What does this mean for other rival 3rd party applications?

This comes at a good time; as users are complaining about Twitpic’s  Terms of Service which unmistakably states …

By uploading content to Twitpic you give Twitpic permission to use or distribute your content on Twitpic.com or affiliated sites.
You retain all ownership rights to Content uploaded to Twitpic. However, by submitting Content to Twitpic, you hereby grant Twitpic a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Content in connection with the Service and Twitpic’s (and its successors’ and affiliates’) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels.

Yfrogs terms of service however states that -

The content that you distribute through the ImageShack Network is owned by you, and you give ImageShack permission to display and distribute said content exclusively on the ImageShack Network.

Although people seem to find Yfrog difficult to use and nagivate.

So I’d say it is bad for Twitpic, maybe they got too greedy? However  hopefully Twitter will design a superior, smoother, simplier to navigate service that protects our photographs copyright without being able to share them without our consent.

Twitter launching its own photo sharing service isn’t really that mind blowing for us Twitter users but for 3rd party applications its not good, I wonder what it means for the future?

What about a file sharing service via DM…now –  that could be handy.

Any idea’s?

Delete photos on (NEW DESIGN) YFrog – Part two

I wrote a post not so long ago about how to delete your photos from YFrog; due to the fact it took me a little while to find out. I’m pleased to say, that this post has helped out many people.

How to remove pictures on Yfrog updated

So I hopped on over to Yfrog.  It seems things have indeed changed, in fact Yfrog recently had a complete overhaul on design with virtually a new product: you can tweet directly from their site, photos are more organised and it looks much more professional now.  This new design is apparently in beta and is being pushed out to people slowly so you may not have seen it yet.  It does look easier to use now, so hopefully people won’t have so much difficulty but just in case, this is how you remove photos now.

  1. Click Profile
  2. Click Photos (or videos)
  3. Do not click the picture – because when you hover over the photo that you wish to delete  you will see an X – click  - here to remove.

UPDATE  -  Another change to YFrog design, just a small one. 

Proceed to step 3. 

3. Still do not click the picture – but hover over it and you will see the trashcan, click that to delete.

If you wish to remove the complete yfrog account go to settings which is on the drop down arrow next to profile and click delete account.

Looks like they have got rid of that ugly frog too !
