Where’s my phone?!

Have you ever uttered those unforgettable words? “Oh no, where’s my mobile?” Its not where you thought, not in your pocket, not in your bag, not on your desk, suddenly a feeling of dread comes over you that you’ve left your phone somewhere. You start to panic, the only way is get a friend to ring it, hoping that you didn’t leave it on silent.  9 times out of 10 its just there on the side but sometimes you’ve lost it for good!

That’s what these little gadgets are for……

The Zomm Wireless Leash

I saw this one in the Stuff Magazine last month – They say its the first wireless leash for Smartphones.  Its about the size of a 50p and you put it on your keyring. Connected via bluetooth to your smartphone and when you walk away from your handset (20-40ft) it sounds an alarm to tell you that you have forgotten your phone!  Amazing!

It reminds me a little of that  gadget we use to have to find our keys, where you whistled and it would bleep to show you where your keys were. Maplin even still sell them. You could even attach one of these to your phone for a cheap option I suppose hehe!.  However the Zomm Wireless Leash is much more sophisticated than that.

It  has an inbuilt speaker so you can also answer your calls with the device, even when the phone is inside your bag or out of reach, like a bluetooth headset. A full charge will last upto 5 days or 2 hours of speakerphone talk time.

You can also use it as a panic alarm as when you press the button it lets off an ear piecing scream!

Colours I’ve seen are Black, Pink and White.

Suitable for any iPhone, blackberry or nokia smartphone. in fact it is reported to be for all smartphones.

Full spec here from the Zomm website.

  1. An illuminated Z-button ergonomically designed for ease of use, but also recessed and unlikely to be inadvertently pressed while in a pocket or purse.
  2. Three LED perimeter alert lights
  3. A high-powered micro speaker.
  4. A noise-cancelling microphone.
  5. A strong, torque-resistant metal loop for use with a key chain.
  6. A micro-USB port with dust cover for charging, updating and customizing the ZOMM.
  7. An overall, well designed, multi-functional device.

Sounds superb doesn’t it – I would really like one.  However at £80 I guess to get full use out of it, you must be one of these people that regularly misplace your mobile phone. (cell phone if you are American 🙂 )

With this clever gadget you would never lose your Smartphone again.

Update – Regarding concerns over battery drainage – I received this tweet from @Thezomm today “Actually, It’s not constantly pinging your phone, so it doesn’t drain the battery like you would think.”

Interesting piece of kit but one slight problem… Any smartphone user will know that Bluetooth is a total battery killer. Having bluetooth switched on is bad enough but having it connected and transferring data constantly will spell near instantaneous battery death.

Yes I'm over exaggerating… but not a lot.

Looks great that, reminds me of those whistling key rings, but somewhat more sophisticated 🙂

hmmm yes could be a problem – I wonder how long the iphone would last – I don't have any bluetooth devices so I'm not sure. I know people that do have iphone and use bluetooth headsets all the time but then they are charging in cradles at the time.

Thanks for comment, even though exaggerated 🙂

Yes, that's exactly what I said Mark, maybe I should have mentioned the whistling bit 🙂

Thanks for comment, I didn't realise you actually read my blogs lol 🙂
